When the 15 shortlisted films for the Best International Feature Film Oscar were announced, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of the titles. With gems like Sentimental Value and The Secret Agent on that list, which would be narrowed down to five nominees, it was very difficult to predict which three would join that winning duo. And I confess that after seeing some of those films, I thought this one wouldn't make it, given the quality of the others. I was wrong, but was it really the quality of this film that got it here?
