In the city of Cumaná, Sucre State, there is a river whose name in colonial times was Cumaná River, hence the origin of the city. The mentioned river crosses the city in question. It is born in the mountain range of Turimiquire, municipality of Sucre. And it is fed by other streams and creeks throughout its course until it flows into the beach of the Sucre port. This river had crystalline waters, all a beauty, but in times of heavy rains it overflowed and swept away houses, paved streets and trees. For this reason, a spillway was built to direct it to the Peñón road, in the Valentín Valiente parish. Today the river is in a delicate situation, since we have not taken care of it, as the protagonist of tourism that it should be.
