First post of the year so HAPPY NEW YEAR fam!
It's a tradition worldwide to make gifts to the persons you care about in Christmas holidays so after taking care of my loved ones I decided to also do a present to myself, worked hard this year and totally deserved it hehe!
I's super-easy and fun to do gifts to yourself, you know exactly what you need, and when we're talking about skaters it's even easier, the right gift is a skate gift! Navigated to my favourite skateshop website, loaded my cart with all sorts of goodies, paid and eagerly awaited for my parcel!
Was anticipating to get my hands on my order before New Years Eve but I was unlucky! Seems like courier services have so much work these days they kinda blocked, or at least that was the case in the city I live at! Finally got hold of my parcel yesterday (1/6/2024) after back and forth calls but hey, better late than ever though, right?
Got a bunch of items I needed such as boards, trucks, bearings, skate wax etc. and guys from the skateshop even threw in the latest "Irregular Skate Mag" issue as a gift! Dope!
Here's a more extensive list and photos of what I bought for those who enjoy checking out what kind of gear other skaters skate
3x 8.5 boards
I mostly skate European brands and more specifically Hydroponic boards. They're dirty cheap, durable and really love their shape but this time I decided to diversify a bit and bought 1 Hydroponic 'MACBA' 8.5 board along with 2x Trap Blank boards. I've skated Trap boards before, they're decent and found them on a great sale ($20 each) so I couldn't say no!
Independent 149 Standard forged 'Hollow' Trucks
Don't know why but I only want to skate silver trucks! Desperatelly needed a pair of new Indys and was lucky enough to find those bad boys on a great discount. Last 149 Hollow pair for only $50, exactly what I needed.
This may sound stupid but I am Indy maximalist, I will ride Indys till I can't shred anymore. 20 years of skateboarding and Independent is the only brand that never failed me!
Talking about Indys, I also bought Indys 7'8 bolts. Not much to say about bolts to be honest, all are pretty much the same hehe
Bones Reds Bearings
Bones Reds are in my opinion the most value-for-money bearings one can buy. Was riding Reds for over 5 years till I bought a pair of Bronson bearings last year. Bronson were decent and durable but kinda too expensive if you ask me.
Reds costs $20 while Bronson cost $40 and I can safely say that the experience is pretty much the same. Besides, Bones Reds are legendary, probably the most legendary series of bearings on this fucking planet! Cheap, durable and fast... the perfect combination!
2x Traffic Skate Wax
Me and the crew were out of wax the other day while skating a street ledge and oh boi, this sucks. To make sure this won't happen again I bought 2 pair of Traffic skate waxes on a great price ($3 each) and even gifted one to my homie Paul so I can be certain the whole crew can wax even if I'm not with them hehe!
Irregular skate mag
This 'Irregular' skate mag issue was a gift from Mantis, the skateshop I ordered my stuff from and even though I can't read it (it's in German) I can definitely appreciate all sick photos in there. Didn't have enough time to go through the issue thoroughly but here are a couple sick clicks I found while browsing it
Fresh year, fresh gear
The best moment for skateboarders, mounting your fresh gear! Decided to skate the pink Trap blank board first and made it look even more cool by Nounifying it! Red Noggles look good on peach pink!
For those wondering, I already shredded using my fresh stuff yesterday and it was a dope sesh! We even filmed a few clips, my homie Dimitris who I'll onboard later today is editing them right now and will post them on his account so stay tuned.
This pretty much wraps it up for this post. Hope everyone had a great time this holidays season and let's skate, build and create this new year!
Happy shredding 2024 Skatehive fam
