These are photos taken on the morning of this Easter Sunday (or "Resurrection Sunday," as this commemorative date is also called here)... Curiously, the town seemed to wake up just as slowly as on other Sundays. I suppose the change in the timing of rituals like the blessing of the water to the afternoon has given us this air of normality on a day which, as I recall, was very different from how the streets looked in my childhood and youth. However, this didn't mean there weren't plenty of kind people wishing me a happy Easter in the streets, although most of them were elderly and also known to be involved with the workings of our local church. Personally, it seems to me that since the beginning of this century, the arrival of new governments has fostered a certain level of secularism in society, and this has resulted in the more recent generations not celebrating or commemorating these dates with the same fervor that was felt here until the end of the 20th century.
