In recent days, I've been taking rides on my old bicycle along the rural roads around the village. As usual, I went for these rides very early in the morning, and on some of them, fog blanketed the valley, transforming what might otherwise be ordinary views into complex and enigmatic scenes. These photos are a selection from the many I took during those days, and although I've already shared some photos from those rides in color, this time I wanted to convert the ones I processed for this post to a monochromatic scheme. These photos, in particular, are ones whose character seemed well-suited to stripping away the colors and using compositional elements, along with light, contrast, and depth, to reveal what was there and what I was observing at that moment. In other words, these photos in this post were, in a way, taken "thinking of black and white," something I learned to do a long time ago, and something I still love to do when I go out to take photos.
