When the word was invented or originated, it emerged as a mechanism for transmitting information to preserve life. Saying something false or imprecise could have severe consequences for the group. Then societies became more "sophisticated," and so the lie was born — because with the truth, you cannot manipulate and dominate people. The manufacturers of lies achieved what they craved: money, power, fame, impunity. Some chose religion, others politics, and the vast majority the media. And when someone who doesn't know how — or doesn't want — to lie ventures into those spheres, they end up being treated as a heretic or a madman, because society has grown so accustomed to lies that it is no longer capable of tolerating the truth.
