I recently had the opportunity to attend a recording session with a drummer. He isn't a session musician or anything like that; he was just laying down some covers. One of the songs he recorded, and which I was pleased to document, was Nirvana's "Something in the Way," one of my all-time favorites. I made a point of getting different angles so the photography could capture the dark aura evoked by the lyrics. The lighting helped, which made the process fun, even though I was physically exhausted. That same day I was also shooting a short film (I'll be making a separate post about that later). The session didn't last more than two hours. The longest part was setting up all the recording equipment. On my end, I took the opportunity to run some exposure tests.
