May 10, 2024 became one of the most spectacular nights for sky watchers in Poland. A strong aurora was visible even from city centers, with vivid shades of pink, red, and green illuminating the sky. This was the result of a powerful coronal mass ejection (CME) that triggered an intense geomagnetic storm. In the coming days, there is a chance for a repeat of this extraordinary display. Another large CME has been observed on the Sun and is currently heading toward Earth. If conditions align, we may once again see the aurora at our latitude. It’s worth keeping an eye on the Kp index and watching for clear skies after dusk – the solar maximum is still ongoing.
