As its name suggests, Olympic Village is a neighbourhood that was initially built to house athletes for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympics games. Afterwards, the units were repurposed for swanky living on the outskirts of downtown proper, and it has now turned into a pleasant and vibrant neighbourhood right on the shores of a narrow Pacific inlet called False Creek. I happened to be hovering around the neighbourhood the other day, when I came across The Birds sculpture. This area is a recently developed zone, relatively speaking, so there are still many natural spaces not too far from there. It’s very fitting to have this pair of oversized sparrows in the plaza.
