It used to be said that the American dream included owning a house with a white picket fence. By osmosis, it has been the Canadian dream too. It’s a wonderful idea to own a piece of land on which to design a home and arrange living affairs as one sees fit. It therefore intrigues me whenever I come across unique neighbourhoods that follow a different trend. No land, no white picket fence, no problem. I guess, there’s no need for a fence around a floating ocean home. Poseidon himself is the security guard, except on land where he has no dominion, and a security fence is likely needed. The trail that passes through this neighbourhood is part of a larger trans-Canada network that crosses urban and wilderness areas. I like the idea of a floating home in principle. You get a view of the ocean and the city. I can only imagine what it looks like at night when the whole of downtown Vancouver lights up, and the north shore mountains look resplendent covered in snow. Are the homes in constant roc
