I get that couples should commit to their marital vows and equally prioritize protecting their marriages. But is putting one's life on the line also a part of it? Is sacrificing one's life on the altar of a marriage that values them so little worth it? I've always been of the opinion that prioritizing oneself is not selfishness, it's survival, it's being responsible for your life, your happiness, your general health and well-being! Just so you know; Your life is the only thing you have, and it's worth more than anything else. So protecting it should be your top priority! It shouldn't be something to gamble with, just so you can please others or protect whatever relationship you're in. You're not the savior, so stop trying to be one! Prioritize yourself!
