When weโre in Aizu, one of our destinations is Tsuruga Castle, located in the center of Aizu-Wakamatsu. Tsuruga-jo, which was originally built in the 14th century, is particularly known for its role in the Boshin War, when it served as one of the last strongholds of the samurai. After the castle was destroyed, it was faithfully reconstructed in 1965 and is now best known for its striking red tiled roof, its historical significance, and the many cherry blossoms in the surrounding park. Weโve visited and toured this castle countless times over the past few years. I enjoy walking around the castle and viewing it from various angles, and I also like to admire it from a distance. And in terms of distance, we went a bit further this time. This time we were standing a few kilometers away at the edge of the mountains, but even from there you could make out the castle in the city center. And if you have a camera with a good zoom, the castle seems to come right at you and is almost close enough
