As is tradition, we gather at my parents’ house, this time during Holy Week. Before, we used to meet at my maternal grandparents’ house, but now each of my uncles and aunts hosts the gathering at their own homes, serving up cuajado or fish pie and rice pudding or rice with shredded coconut. My maternal family is from San José de Unare, a small town in Guárica on the border with Anzoátegui state in Venezuela, so we’re eastern plains people. I’ve already told you, dear food lovers, that what I like most about this part of the family is eating, but hey, I also capture moments—hahaha—I say that because this time I woke up at 11:30 a.m.—can you believe it! I overslept in my single bed, and when I got to the kitchen, my mom and sister had already chopped all the ingredients, flaked the tuna, and cooked the vegetables; in other words, they were about to make the stew to assemble and put the pie in the oven. Wow! I was lucky because at least I managed to take some pictures to share with you wh
