English I have a deep fear of my own country. I wanted to talk about that. I’m from Mexico. I’ve noticed that there are many fellow Mexicans here on Hive; I suppose everyone knows about the problem that drug trafficking is in Mexico, but for many it’s probably not something that hits so close to home. I’m from a pretty small town, a bit isolated, and usually it’s calm, but like in any town in Mexico, organized crime is the one really in charge. This creates an interesting contrast, because I don’t know anyone there who has been mugged. If someone tries that, they get killed. The same goes for rapists, domestic abusers, and pretty much any criminal—they handle “justice” their own way. That could make it seem relatively safe, but every now and then terrifying things happen. I ended up in the middle of two shootouts; they happened while I was in class in high school.
