Photos taken on July 29, 2025. This is a continuation of the story about our trip to the salt lakes. I wrote about the first part a week ago. On our last day, we drove out to a place I had wanted to see for a long time: πΈ Burlinskoye Lake β the βPinkβ Salt Lake of Altai is a hypersaline lake in the steppe zone of Altai Krai, famous for its seasonal pink shades during the hottest months. The color isnβt pollution and itβs not a trick of the light. Itβs biology. When temperatures rise and salinity increases, microorganisms β especially Artemia brine shrimp β multiply rapidly. During mass blooms, they give the water a soft pink, sometimes almost raspberry tone. The brighter the sun and the higher the salt concentration, the more intense the color becomes. Standing on the shore, you see white salt crusts under your feet, pale wind-blown steppe grass behind you, and a pink horizon in front of you. It doesnβt look like Siberia. It feels like another planet. πΉ Salt and History Salt has been
