Instead of just re-playing the melody, I wanted to re-contextualize the song through the lens of 16-bit nostalgia. Chrono Trigger is famous for its emotive soundtracks—songs like "Wind Scene" or "Schala’s Theme" have a crystalline, timeless quality. By pulling samples directly from the game’s sound font, I was able to wrap the funky, synth-pop structure of Gorillaz in a layer of noise, retro-fantasy textures. Original Song:
